Schuylkill landmark falls Fire destroys century-old barn in West Brunswick Township
An old stone barn, a century-old landmark in Schuylkill County was destroyed by an early morning fire Friday in West Brunswick township.
When fire fighters from Schuylkill and Berks counties arrived on scene at the intersection of Routes 61 and 895 just after 1 a.m., the huge masonry structure was fully involved in flames.
The barn, owned by the Baver family, was filled with hay, tractors and farm equipment. Route 895 was shut down for hours. Due to the remote location, water had to be tanked into the site. Heavy equipment bagan removing debris from the structure and the overall cleanup could take days.
