Coaldale Fire Company project approved

The Schuylkill County Commissioners sat in a special session Wednesday morning to review the county's proposed 2010 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and proposed a budget for $380,000, based on anticipated funds from the state. Commissioner Mantura Gallagher reported if additional funds are received additional projects will be undertaken. The board allocated funds for the following:

Coaldae Fire Company, 121 W. High St., $36,400 for replacement of an oil burner unit with coal fired unit.Branch Township, $53,000 for installation of 425 feet of six inch waterline from Willing Street to Silverton Road also a fire hydrant and two service lines.Gordon Borough, $45,000, install double entry doors and a ramp in the municipal building to comply with American Disability Act (ADA) regulations.Girardville Borough, $55,000, to complete Phase III of the stormwater project on Oak Street from West Oak to North Richard streets.Cass Township, $53,000, to install 600 feet of stone-lined swale and headwall and cross pipe to improve the drainage on Woodside Road.Reilly Township, $35,500 for stormwater improvements on Meadow and Donaldson streets in village of Donaldson.The board also set aside $33,700 for demolition of dilapidated buildings at locations throughout the county and $68,400 for ongoing management, planning and oversight of the program.The board received a total of 23 applications for projects and the amount of CDBG funds sought totaled $941,900. Among the applications received from boroughs and townships but not acted on because of lack of funds were as follows:East Brunswick Township sought $37,000 for a project estimated to cost $45,000 to make playground improvements on Catawissa Street in New Ringgold.Blythe Township asked for $45,000 for a project estimated to cost $52,000 for a roof replacement at the Kaska Fire Company on Hillside Lane, Kaska.McAdoo Borough sought $30,000 for a project estimated to cost $34,500 for playground improvements at Veterans Memorial Park, located in the southwest section of the borough.Ashland Borough, sought $21,000 for a project estimated to cost $33,000 to install a paved parking lot at the borough hall, police station and Anthracite Museum Building and $20,000 of CDBG funds for a project estimated to cost $26,500 for repair and brace firehouse floor were the borough's firetruck is housed.Foster Township sought $58,000 for a $64,000 estimated cost of a project for ADA improvements for outdoor facillities at Mount Pleasant Fire Company, Ball Park Road and SR901.Frailey Township sought $54,000 for a $64,000 estimated cost of a project for stormwater improvements on Walnut Street, from Martin Street to Maple Street in Donaldson.Gilberton Borough sought $62,500 for a $62,900 project for replacement of 15 stormwalter inlet boxes and paving in various locations in the borough and also asked for $125,000 for a $125,000 project to replace an additional 30 stomwater inlet boxes and grates in various locations in the borough.Mahanoy Township sought $25,000 for a project estimated to cost $350,000 to replace a 60,000 capacity water tank in Morea and also sought $30,000 for a $33,000 project to demolish a property at 17 Back Street.Orwigsburg borough sought $48,000 for a project estimated costing $60,000 for ADA compliant curb ramps at the intersection of North Warren and Mifflin streets and North Wayne and East Mifflin streets.Ringtown Borough sought $54,000 for an estimated $66,000 project for construction of a retaining wall ands stormwater improvements on Apple Street.Saint Clair Borough sought $32,500 for a $36,500 estimated project for stormwater improvements on Thompson Street at the intersection with Wade Road and 900 feet west of SR61.
