Everyone feels more generous during the holidays. But what about the month after?
Area food pantries want the public to know that they are in need of stocking their shelves all year long.
That's why CACPAC (Christians in Action Council of Palmerton Area Churches) is extremely grateful to the Bowmanstown/Parryville Lions Club for their recent donation of $200. With this generous donation, CACPAC was able to purchase much needed groceries for its food pantry.
Also, the Lions worked with the Bowmanstown Vol. Fire Company in a food drive held in December and was very successful in providing food items for CACPAC.
"For a few years, we were feeding about 120 families, but due to the economy, that number has risen. At Thanksgiving, we served 167 families, 493 people. In December, we served 164 families, 437 people," says Charlie Silliman, coordinator of CACPAC.
So when folks like the Lions Club and the Bowmanstown Vol. Fire Co. makes donations, it is very much needed and appreciated and it is hoped that other area businesses and organizations will want to make donations, as well as individuals.
Linda Swartz, president of CACPAC, says that they are constantly in need of donations, whether it is in food items, nonperishable items or monetary.
If you would like to help those in your community who are struggling right now and would like to donate groceries, you can call Charlie at 610-826-4335 to make an appointment for you to drop them off at the pantry which is located at Community Service Center, 215 Franklin Ave., Palmerton.
If you would like to make a monetary donation, you can send a check made out to CACPAC to Bonnie Green, 3710 Forest Inn Road, Palmerton, PA 18071.
CACPAC is a combined ministry of 15 Palmerton area churches working together to care for those in need.
