Members of Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Trachsville, do fundraising all year. Then Pastor Sharon Temple said it was time to do something "just for fun."

"This won't cost anything except the hot dog rolls," said Terry Goodhile, who organized the Chili Challenge as that fun project. He hopes it will become an annual event.

"Everybody makes the 'best' chili," Goodhile said. People made the chili at home and brought it in crockpots.

First they took tastes because everyone was a judge. The contestants can vote for themselves.

While the judging was tallied, people enjoyed a community meal with their favorite chili and chili dogs.

Winners were: Micah Hessinger of Palmerton, first; June Easterday of Lehighton, second; and Chuck Clabbers of Tennessee, third
