Winter carnival

The Good News Club is sponsoring a Winter Carnival on Saturday, Feb. 20, from 2-4 p.m., at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Registration will begin at 1:30 p.m.

All children between the ages of 2-11 are welcome to participate, but must be accompanied by an adult.

The event is free and will include face painting, balloon animals and more.

Writers conference

The Black Diamond Writers Network will conduct the region's first writers conference on April 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Schuylkill County Council for the Arts Center, 1440 Mahantongo St., Pottsville.

Keynote speaker will be Kathryn Crofy, owner of Her topic will be "Coming to Terms With Life: An Artist's Approach."

Day long events will also include eight workshops on writing-related topics as well as an author book fair.

Calvary Methodist

The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include Holy Communion.

Also on Sunday, a time of evening praise and Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m. This will include an in-depth discussion of the morning sermon.

Ash Wednesday services will be held Feb. 17, at 7 p.m., at Christ Church, McKeansburg.
