Drivers are needed to assist veterans

Published December 29. 2010 05:00PM

Volunteer drivers are needed to help provide transportation for veterans as part of the Veterans Administration Medical Center Transportation Network.

Henry Desrosiers, Carbon County's director of veterans affairs, said he is hopeful to get the public involved in this volunteer program that can be of tremendous assistance to veterans from Carbon County.

He said many veterans need access to transportation in order to obtain health care services at the medical center located in Plains Township. Under the program, vans are available for this purpose, although volunteers are needed to make the trips.

For more information on the program, interested persons should call the medical center at its toll-free number 1-877-928-2621 and ask to speak to one of the following: Paul Hankey, hospital service coordinator, extension 7925, or Vincent L. Riccardo Jr., acting chief, Voluntary Service, extension 7237.
