A new year extravaganza
Patrons who celebrate the new year at the Covered Bridge Inn in Little Gap can have three times the fun.
That's because the authentic American Tavern located at the base of the Blue Mountain Ski Area will sponsor a three-day New Year's Eve celebration Thursday through Saturday.
Ron Gilbert, owner, said the tavern's dark wood trim, pressed tin ceiling, and friendly atmosphere next to the twinkling lights of the ski slopes should provide the perfect setting to ring in the New Year.
Gilbert said the festivities will begin with the Covered Bridge Inn's Executive Chef, Jason Howell, who will create exciting New Year's Eve meals prepared with farm and ocean fresh to table ingredients personally selected by Gilbert.
Thursday, the first night of the celebration, will feature the country duo of Jesse Wade and Jeni Hackett, who will perform at 7 p.m. This will also be the tavern's weekly wings and mugs nite.
On Friday, New Year's dinner specials will be served from noon until 10 p.m. At 10 p.m., a gala New Year's Eve Party will begin and feature acoustic entertainment by Megan Lee.
Just before midnight, the party will gravitate out into Little Gap Square for the eighth annual 50 foot lighted ball drop, followed by more entertainment from Lee.
Then, on Saturday, Howell will add slow roasted pork and sauerkraut and bangers 'n mashed potatoes to the menu. Dumpster Dave will then perform from 7-10 p.m.
Designed by Shawn Kresge Electric Company of Jim Thorpe, the ball has 1800 LED energy efficient bulbs and is lowered 50 feet from a high lift provided each year by Dwight Eisenhower of JBM Mechanical of Bath.
"Last year's ball drop attracted over 350 people to Little Gap Square, with many more expected this year," Gilbert said. "Cars just pull along the road, people get out and enjoy the midnight ball drop."
