Winnie's ordeal not over

Winnie, who is presumed to be a 6-year-old Black Labrador Retriever, is now safely home with her new owner, Bev Ehret in Palmerton.

But Winnie's journey is not over yet. She still needs a specialized ear surgery to correct the problems that occurred from a severe ear infection that she picked up while living at Musket Labradors in Franklin Township.Susie Yaich, who is part owner of Jim Thorpe Pet Center, co-founder of Carbon County Friends of Animals and a member of the Carbon County Animal Response Team (CART), explained that the surgery is currently scheduled for the end of January.Donations to help cover the cost of Winnie's surgery, which will also include spaying her, are now being accepted.Yaich said anyone who would like to help Winnie, who is the last of the 13 dogs removed from Musket Labradors by Carbon County Friends of Animals to be adopted, can send donations to Carbon County Friends of Animals, 900 Walnut Ave., Jim Thorpe, PA 18229. Make sure all donations say "Attn: Winnie Fund."
