Tamaqua mayor urges writing to PennDOT over Five Points plan

Published December 23. 2010 05:00PM

Tamaqua Mayor Christian P. Morrison earlier this week sent a letter to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 5-0 office, expressing his concern over the final drafts of the traffic improvement plan recently provided for Tamaqua.

In particular, Morrison is concerned about the lack of implementation in the plan of left-turn arrow signals at two intersections: Route 309 at the Five Points Intersection; and the intersection of Route 309 and Cedar Street.

Morrison explained in his letter that these improvements would not only allow more efficient traffic flow, but would also greatly enhance the safety at these intersections for both pedestrians and motorists.

Morrison is encouraging the public to also write letters to the PennDOT District 5-0 office to help highlight the need for these improvements.

Morrison noted this traffic plan has been in the works for nearly a decade and all throughout one of the most important aspects to the borough has been left-turn arrows at these intersections.

The mailing address for the PennDOT office overseeing the traffic plan is: Mr. Tom Walter, Traffic Unit, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Engineering District 5-0, 1002 Hamilton Street, Allentown, Pa. 18101-1013.
