Knowles will continue to operate out of Tamaqua District Office
State Representative Jerry Knowles (R-124) has announced that he will continue to operate his Tamaqua District Office at 237 W. Broad St.
Knowles shares the Tamaqua office with State Senator David Argall (R-29), who occupied it prior to taking his senate seat two years ago.
Knowles moved in after he was elected to replace Argall in the 12th District, which includes eastern Schuylkill and northern Berks counties.
"For some reason, there is a rumor that Jerry will be moving this office and it is not true," said Linda A. Rice, Knowles' Tamaqua District Office Manager. "Jerry is downsizing the Tamaqua office to save money, but we will be staying here."
Earlier this week Knowles announced he will close his Orwigsburg district office and share office space with Representative-elect Mike Tobash (R-Schuylkill/Berks) at 988 E. Main St. in Schuylkill Haven to provide constituent services to residents in that area of the 124th district.
"My Orwigsburg office was not getting a lot of traffic, so I could not justify spending taxpayer dollars to keep it open," Knowles said in a news release.
"State spending is out of control. We need to get it under control and lawmakers should lead by example. By sharing space with Representative Tobash, we are saving money while keeping up the level of service residents in that area of my district have come to expect."
Because Schuylkill Haven is outside Knowles' district, he will pay no rent on that office. A part-time member of Knowles staff will work out of Tobash's office at least two days a week. The only additional expense will be a phone line dedicated to calls for Knowles.
