The Beltzville Beverage and Beltzville Bar & Grill Golf Tournament brought lots of smiles to those who participated and will bring lots of healthy smiles to the patients of Blue Mountain Health System Mobile Dental Clinic, the recipient of the $2,338 the Tournament raised on Sept. 25 at the Villa Crossings in Mahoning Valley.

The committee of the tournament, Jeff and Deana Burger, Judy and Carl Shupp, Hank and Lorraine Durkop, Diane and Mark Wicknick, Roy and Deana Anthony, Pat Buccieri, Bob Perry and Kevin and Dorothy Holmes try to find local worthy causes to donate the funds they raise from the tournament.

Joe Guardiani, Blue Mt. Health System's Director of Fund Development and Government Relations accepted the check with much appreciation and gratitude.

"Carbon County Partners for Progress and the Blue Mt. Health System saw the initial need in the community and in 2004 started working together on a 3-year long fundraising project, grant-writing and asking for donations. A grant for $150,000 did come through and the rest came from the community. The van arrived in January 2007 and by that March it was operational. We partnered with East Central Area Health Education Center (ECAHEC.) They assess the community's needs and helped us become eligible to apply for the grant," said Guardiani.

Today the Mobile Dental Clinic is a dental home for 1,200 kids in Carbon County and Schuylkill County. They work with the cooperation of the counties' schools and school nurses.

They employ one full-time dentist, Dr. Jason Kishel, one dental hygienist, Karen Kroboth, and a dental assistant/driver, Justin Miller, year-round, five days a week. In the summer months, it's about two to three days a week.

Dr. Kishel will be leaving in March, 2011 and Dr. Sheila Smith will be replacing him.

Deana Burger, co-owner of Beltzville Bar & Grill said that they can't thank people enough for their generosity from the area businesses, golfers and sponsors.
