Holiday favorites featured by TAHS musicians, vocalists

Favorites of the holiday season were featured when Tamaqua High School students in the Concert Choir, Jazz Chorale, Sr. High Wind Ensemble, and the 'Raider' Concert Band presented their annual "Holiday Music Program" to a capacity crowd recently in the school auditorium.
The Wind Ensemble opened the program with "Overture to a Winter Celebration" by James Stephenson. They followed that with a Gustav Holst piece "Christmas Day", arranged by Larry Daehn, and closed with "A Christmas Fantasy" by Roland Barrett.
The Concert Choir opened the vocal portion of the concert with "Jubilate Deo" by Sally Albrecht and "Were You There on That Christmas Night" by Natalie Sleeth. They followed those selections with a Mark Hayes gospel version of "O Holy Night" and concluded the first half of the concert with "Hark! The Angels Sing on High."
The 'Raider' Concert Band opened the second half of the program with Ed Huckeby's "Good Tidings to All." The program continued with "Celtic Bell Carol" by Robert W. Smith. The band completed their portion of the program with "Good King Wence-Salsa" and the LeRoy Anderson holiday classic "Sleigh Ride."
The Jazz & Concert Chorale closed the program, beginning with a Christmas spiritual "Follow That Star" by Brian Lewis, then singing the John Rutter piece "Candlelight Carol", followed by "Winter Night". The chorale closed with the traditional Mel Torme holiday standard "The Christmas Song."
The program was concluded with the audience joining the band and choir for a festive sing-a-long.
Accompanists for the choirs were Julian Gerace, Erin Raymond, Steven Moyer and Emily Zancofsky.
The 'Raider' Band and Sr. High Wind Ensemble were under the direction of John Potlunas. The Concert Choir and Jazz Chorale were under the direction of John Buglio.
