Owl Creek Christmas

Christmas is coming early to Owl Creek as the Owl Creek Reservoir Commission presents its free Owl Creek Christmas with Santa on Dec. 11-12. The event will be open each day from noon to 4 p.m. and will feature free drawings for toys, bikes, hams and turkeys. There will also be a campfire for roasting marshmallows, pictures with Santa and crafts for the kids to make.

All events will be held at the Lower Reservoir. Food and beverages will be available.

Rain dates will be Dec. 18-19, same time.

First gift

New Life Assembly of God Church will sponsor a "First Gift" Family Christmas Celebration Friday, at 6:30 p.m. and at 8 p.m. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to each celebration.

The first 100 children at each presentation, ages 4-11, will receive a free gift bag of toys, games and candy. There will also be puppet shows, music, videos, door prizes and more.

The church is located at 407 Schuylkill Ave.

Calvary UM

The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. The service will include a presentation by Janelle and Joel Shrum concerning their mission work. The annual congregational Christmas party will be held following the worship service. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, an evening praise and Bible study session will begin at 6:30 p.m.

A prayer and share event will be held next Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Trinity UCC

The Rev. Dr. David Grant will officiate at the 10 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Trinity United Church of Christ. The service will include Holy Communion. Nursery care is available during the worship service. Sunday school classes will meet at 8:45 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Christmas caroling group will visit the Geriatric Center at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, beginning at 2 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Wednesday, Bible study session at 7 p.m.; Thursday, choir rehearsal at 6:30 p.m.

St. John's Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this All Saints Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will be followed by a coffee fellowship. Sunday school and Confirmation classes meet at 10:30 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, church council meets at 7 p.m., deadline for January Messenger; Wednesday, Mid-Week Advent service, noon, New Life Assembly of God Church; Thursday, Messenger assembly at 1 p.m., Chime Choir meets at 5:30 p.m., Angel Choir rehearses at 6 p.m., Shepherds at 6:30 p.m. and Praise Choir at 7:30 p.m.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include special music by the Cherub Choir and a Thankoffering. The service will be followed by a congregational meeting, which will include the nomination and election of board members. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, rehearsal for the Sunday school Christmas Program will begin at 10:30 a.m., Cub Scout committee meets at 5 p.m. and Cub Scouts, Daisies and Brownies all meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, food co-op at 6 a.m.; Thursday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., Confirmation class meets at 6 p.m., Cherub Christmas party at 6 p.m., and Brownies at 6:30 p.m.

Choir rehearsals are held on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: Cherubs at 6:30 p.m., Junior Choir at 7 p.m., and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.

A used clothing drive will be held the next two weekends: Dec. 11, 9 a.m. to noon; Dec. 12, 8 a.m. to noon; and Dec. 18, 9-10 a.m.
