Scherer reappointed president of Palmerton School Board

Palmerton Area School District will again be led by its incumbent president, while another incumbent will take over the reigns as vice president.
Director Barry Scherer was reappointed as board president, while Clarency Myers was dubbed vice president, at the school board's reorganizational meeting on Tuesday.
Scherer was nominated for the post by Director Michael Ballard. No other director was nominated for the position.
Myers was nominated for vice president of the board by Ballard. Director Carol Dwyer then nominated Director Carl Bieling for vice president.
Myers was appointed to the post on a 5-3 vote, with directors Darlene Yeakel, Stuart Henritzy, Ballard, Scherer and Myers in favor, and directors Tina Snyder, Dwyer and Bieling opposed.
Director Susan Debski, who attended the meeting, was absent when the votes were taken.
Scherer told the board he was grateful for their support.
"I'd like to thank the board members for their confidence in re-electing me as president," Scherer said. "It's been a challenging year, but we're all here for the kids first."
In a related matter, the board set its committee appointments for next year.
Dwyer will serve as board treasurer; Scherer, Bieling, Ballard and Debski on budget and finance; Dwyer, Scherer, Yeakel and Myers on negotiations and grievance; with Yeakel, Debski, Henrityz and Snyder on policy.
Bieling will serve as board representative on the Carbon Career & Technical Institute, with Yeakel as the alternate representative; Ballard as board representative on the CLIU 21; and Debski as library board representative.
Audrey Larvey will serve on Lehigh Carbon Community College; Debski as board representative on cafeteria/food services/wellness; Yeakel on legislation/PSBA liaison; and Ballard on the safety committee.
Thomas G. Schmidt on the CCTI Authority through 2014; and business Manager Lisa Vignone as primary voting delegate and Superintendent Carol Boyce as first alternate voting delegate on the Carbon County Tax Collection Committee.
The board will continue to meet at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month.
