Carbon driver facing DUI count

A Carbon County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI). He is one of two facing DUI charges according to state police at Lehighton.

On Sunday, May 16, about 9:40 p.m. Anthony Julio Riggio, 26, of Lansford, crashed his car along SR248 westbound at the off ramp in Bowmanstown. Troopers said Riggio was traveling at an excessive rate of speed when the crash occurred. Troopers said he traveled through a stop sign at the top of the ramp and crashed into the guard rail.Riggo fled the scene but was apprehended a few minutes later at the Bowmanstown Diner. He was taken into custody and found to be under the influence. He was taken to he barracks where he submitted to a breath test.Troopers said charges are pending.The second arrest occurred on Monday, May 17, about 7:30 p.m. along SR209 at Fairgrounds Road, in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said William Perez, 37, of Gilbert, was stopped for a traffic violation. At the stop he was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Charges of DUI of a controlled substance are pending, troopers said.
