Vehicle entry, theft probed in Monroe

Published December 03. 2010 05:00PM

State police at Fern Ridge are investigating the entry of a vehicle and theft incident in Monroe County.

Troopers said sometime between 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 24 and 11:25 a.m. on Nov. 25, unknown persons entered the unlocked 1993 GMC pickup truck of William Jeker, 32, of 274 Meadow Lake Drive, Sciota, Chestnuthill Township, while parked in the driveway of the residence.

The criminals rummaged through the vehicle and found the keys. They then fled with the truck. The truck was found the next day in a wooded area across a field off Miexsell Valley Road, a mile east of Grover Road. The vehicle had been purposely damaged, troopers said.

There have been several of these types of thefts in the lower half of Monroe County mainly in the West End area, trooper said. Troopers urged residents to lock their vehicles and especially not leave the keys inside the vehicle.

Anyone with information concerning the above incident is asked to call troopers at (570) 646-2271.
