Tamaqua High School Holiday Music Program set for Dec. 9

The Tamaqua Sr. High School Music Department will present its' annual "Holiday Music Program" on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium. The concert will feature the best in holiday selections presented by students in the Concert Choir, Jazz Chorale, Sr. High Wind Ensemble, and the 'Raider' Concert Band.

The Wind Ensemble will open the program with "Overture to a Winter Celebration" by James Stephenson. They will follow that with a Gustav Holst piece "Christmas Day" arranged by Larry Daehn. They close their portion of the program with "A Christmas Fantasy" by Roland Barrett.

The Concert Choir opens the vocal portion of the concert with "Jubilate Deo" by Sally Albrecht and "Were You There on That Christmas Night" by Natalie Sleeth. They will follow those selections with a Mark Hayes gospel version of "O Holy Night". They conclude the first half of the concert with "Hark! The Angels Sing on High."

The 'Raider' Concert Band opens the second half of the program with Ed Huckeby's " Good Tidings to All". The program continues with "Celtic Bell Carol" by Robert W. Smith. The band completes their portion of the program with "Good King Wence-Salsa" and the LeRoy Anderson holiday classic "Sleigh Ride."

The Jazz and Concert Chorale will close the program beginning with a Christmas spiritual "Follow That Star" by Brian Lewis. The chorale will then sing the John Rutter piece "Candlelight Carol" followed by "Winter Night". The chorale closes by singing the traditional Mel Torme holiday standard "The Christmas Song."

The program will conclude with the audience joining the band and choir for a festive sing-a-long.

Accompanists for the choirs are Julian Gerace, Erin Raymond, Steven Moyer and Emily Zancofsky.

The 'Raider' Band and Sr. High Wind Ensemble are under the direction of John Potlunas. The Concert Choir and Jazz Chorale are under the direction of John Buglio.

Doors to the auditorium will open at 6:45 p.m. There will be an admission charge.
