Washington Twp. fire displaces family of 10

Published August 24. 2010 05:00PM

A fire in Washington Township Saturday night displaced a family of 10.

Contacted this morning, Ted Engle, assistant chief of Friedens Fire Company, told the TIMES NEWS no injuries were reported in the 8:45 p.m. fire at 4381 Hilldale Road.

"We did a small investigation, and are looking at an electrical problem in the basement," Engle said. "We will have our fire marshal check it to be sure, so it's still under investigation."

Engle said the fire, which caused smoke damage upstairs, didn't take long to extinguish.

"It was a quick knock down, I'd say 20 minutes to a half-hour," he said. "It didn't spread any further than the basement area, really."

The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley provided lodging, meals, clothing, shoes and toiletry items to two adults and eight children at the single-family home.

Engle said Friedens was assisted by the Emerald, Slatedale, Neffs, and Germansville fire companies.
