Labor Day weekend events set for two area state parks
Labor Day weekend events are scheduled for Tuscarora and Lake Lake state parks in Schuylkill County.
On Sept. 4, from 1-4 p.m. Lake View Trail Hike. Join naturalist Robin Tracey on the Crow and Lake View Trails at Tuscarora. The hike is 5.5 miles and moderate in difficulty. The trails cross through two creeks and run paraellel to the lake with a specutacular view from the dam. Participants should meet in the Crow Trail parking lot off Tuscarora Mountain Road. Pre-registrartion is required. Call Tracey at (570) 467-2506 or register online at www.dcnr.state.pa.us under calendar of events for the park. This is a dog friendly hike but all pets must be leashed and get along with other pets and people.
From 6:30-8 p.m. Creature Feature. Pam Ulicny has been a biology teacher at Tri Valley High School for the past 16 years. Over this time she has collected a classroom full of different species of exotic invertebrates, amphibians, and reptiles for educational purposes. A presentation will be held at Locust Lake Amphitheatre. In Ulicny's "Mrs. U-Zoo Revue", she will discuss specialized niches and adaptations, biodiversity, and responsible pet care. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Sept. 5. 1-4 p.m. Spirit Trail Hike. Join naturalists Robin Tracey and "Pap" Knauss on the "Spirit of Tuscarora Trail". This trail is 4.5 miles in length and moderate in difficulty. This trail will take you through many diverse habitats including places that are just starting to recover from the flood of 2006. Enjoy the beautiful views of the lake and the late summer wildflowers. Dogs are welcome, but must be leashed and get along with other pets and people. Participants should met at the upper beach parking lot at Tuscarora. Pre-registration is required for this event by calling Tracey at (570) 467-2506 or online.
6-8 pm. Neil's Funny Farm. Young's Funny Farm in Berwick is not an average farm. Owners Neil and Yvonne are not average farmers. They care for a menagerie that would make Dr. Dolittle smile. Join in at the Locust Lake Campstore field at 6 p.m. for a family friendly program. Young's Funny Farm is home to countless rescued and abandoned animals that are used as therapy animals. This program is free, but donations are welcome.
All programs are shine only and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
