Dan Onorato, who is the Democratic candidate for governor, yesterday visited KME in Nesquehoning and toured the firetruck manufacturing plant.

Onorato promised to push for more assistance to existing factories in Pennsylvania, stating, "Nothing's better than showing the example that manufacturing can work in Pennsylvania; manufacturing can work in this country."

Of the Kovatch firm, he remarked, "There's craftmanship here. It's not just an assembly line."

He was taken on a tour of the facilities by Kovatch officials.

Accompanying them was U.S. Congressman Paul Kanjorski.

Onorato held a brief press conference during which he discussed some of his campaign platforms.

Also present were numerous local Democratic Party officials including Billy O'Gurek Jr., chairman of the Carbon County Democratic Committee, and William O'Gurek, chairman of the Carbon County Board of Commissioners.

John "Sonny" Kovatch, founded and president emeritus of Kovatch, reminded Onorato to remember Carbon residents if elected governor.
