10 companies respond to industrial fire near Barnesville

About 1:30 a.m. this morning firefighters from Mahanoy City, Hometown, Ryan Township, Shenandoah, West Mahanoy Township, Mahanoy City, Delano, Ringtown, Hazleton, Gordon, and other fire departments all responded to a commercial structure fire call which was located on the Fabcon Inc property near Barnesville at 1200 Morea Road just outside Mahanoy City.

Fabcon Inc manufactures and erects precast concrete wall panels for various types of structures. Heavy smoke could be seen shooting out of openings of very large structure building located on the Fabcon property. Firefighters used an industrial saw to cut an opening in the metal roof to allow the heavy smoke to escape. A total of about 10 tankers were utilized from all the fire departments to help supply water to the heavy smoke and flames.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
