Hundreds of motorists were detained Wednesday afternoon in the Lehighton area when additional beams were delivered to the work site near the Northeast Extension of the turnpike. The two super loads escorted by state police arrived at 3 p.m. All traffic along SR248 was closed as the truck tractors made their wide turn onto the roadway. Turnpike officials have reported the new steel reinforced concrete beams will be placed in the night time hours with temporary closings of route 248. The new bridge will carry the turnpike over the Lehigh River near Parryville.
