A Wayne County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) and other counts after leading police on a chase. Pocono Mountain Regional police said the incident started about 3:21 a.m. on July 31 along SR940 ad Miller Drive, in Tobyhanna Township.

Police said officers observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed at the above location and attempted to stop it while going westbound. Police pulled behind the car and it sped away. Police gave chase with lights and siren with the vehicle passing several other vehicles. The driver finally pulled the vehicle over at SR940 and Stoney Hollow Rd., following a short chase.

The driver was identified as Francis Matacchiera, 41, of Lake Ariel. He was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. He was then transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for a blood test. He was later released to friends at the Pocono Raceway, police said.

Matacchiera will be charged with DUI, fleeing and/or attempting to elude police, driving under suspension, driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed and no passing zones.
