Dance school announces finalists, scholarship winners

June 19 marked the 23rd annual Dance with Kim Dance production "Reaching New Heights." Students from Carbon, Schuylkill, Monroe, Lehigh and Northampton counties participated in the matinee and evening productions held at Lehighton Area High School.

The finalists for 2010 Dancer of The Year were: Kelsey Andrews, Samantha Banning, Madison Brown, Angeline Castagna, Brianna Holtzer, Aida Pope, Sophia Samoleski, Brittany Semmel, Catrina Strubinger, Alexandra Whalen, Christi Beddiges, Brianna Keiser, Emily Snyder and Emily Mriss.Named Most Improved Dancer 2010 is Angeline Castagna. Angeline is the 9-year-old daughter of Carmen and Carmel Castagna of New Ringgold. She was awarded a $150 Performing Arts Scholarship.Brittany Semmel, 15-year-old daughter of Mike and Kim Semmel of Lehighton, was named Senior Dancer of the Year 2010. Brittany's $300 scholarship was awarded to Emily Snyder of Lehighton and Elizabeth Anthony of Palmerton.Brianna Holtzer, 10-year-old daughter of Melissa Holtzer of Lehighton and Phill Costenbader of Palmerton, was named Dance with Kim's Junior Dancer of the Year 2010. Brianna received a $200 Performing Arts Scholarship.The Edward Zarsky memorial scholarship for $100 was awarded to Makayla Nothstein. She is the daughter of Jason and Heather Nothstein of Lehighton.The Amanda Thierer memorial scholarship was presented to Christi Beddiges. The daughter of Paul and Peggy Beddiges of Lehighton, she received a $250 scholarship.The winner of the Studio Spirit scholarship for $100 was Erin McGinley, daughter of Bill and Julie McGinley of Lehighton.Recipients of the Mark McCool memorial scholarships, each worth $250, were awarded to Lillian Brown, 8-year-old daughter of Bobby and Amy Brown of Lehighton; and Kaitlin Smith, 15-year-old daughter of Benjamin and Wanda Smith of Lehighton.Dance with Kim School of Performing Arts is located at 248 South Fourth St., Lehighton.
