At Walnutport Council's workshop meeting held Thursday night Mike Wentz, who is the borough's grant coordinator, said that he just found out that Walnutport will be receiving a $238,000 federal block grant to redo the bathrooms in Borough Hall and 215 Lincoln Ave. to make them ADA accessible.

Wentz also said that the Walnutport Canal Association is applying for a $300,000 grant with the Delaware and Lehigh Natural Heritage Corridor to get the damaged locks of the canal fixed. Council also discussed splitting the cost of dredging the canal with the Walnutport Water Authority.

"There's going to be more work that's going to have to be done down there. This is just the beginning," Councilman Matthew Newhard said.

In other business, Councilman Lamar Lauer said that the borough's 2009 CDBG project, which includes Fourth Street, the 300 block of Birch Street and the 200 block of Chestnut Street, will begin Aug. 16. Information will be sent out to the people that live on the streets that will be affected by the construction.
