Two persons were injured, one seriously, in a two vehicle crash that occurred about 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 30, along SR209 in Frailey Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Cane S. Campbell, 22, of Williamstown, and Harry J. Mummert Jr., 40, of East Berlin, Adams County, were both northbound where the roadway merges from two lanes to one. Troopers said Campbell was behind Mummert, who had merged into the single lane. Campbell attempted to pass Mummert on the left side and while doing so the right side of his 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee struck the left front fender/tire area of Mummert's 1996 International Harvester 9400 truck tractor.

On impact the Jeep spun counter-clockwise traveling northwest across both lanes of 209 for 96 feet then traveled off the road and still traveling northwest for about 37 feet along the berm where the front right struck an embankment and came to rest. After impact the truck traveled about 50 feet north and came to rest facing north blocking the northbound lane.

A passenger with Campbell, Randall G. Davis II, 21, of Tower City, was seriously injured and flown by LifeFlight helicopter to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Campbell was also injured and taken to a Pottsville area hospital. Munnert was not hurt.

Troopers cited Campbell for driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed.
