Published August 04. 2010 05:00PM

Weissport Council noted that 42 people are in arrears for their solid waste collection and the combined bill of all delinquents is well over $11,000.

Tim Rehrig, council president, asked Dana Brubaker, secretary, just how high were the numbers.

Brubaker said that the overdue bills total $11,852.

Weissport residents pay $185 a year for garbage fees.

According to the 2010 budget, officials hope to collect $33,000 for solid waste fees this year to pay the costs for collection. Council pays the costs for collection on a monthly basis.

Council also noted that it plans to sell one of two police cars.

"We don't need two police cars when we only have one officer," said Rehrig.

Council plans to get an appraisal before accepting bids.

The police car for sale is a black and white 2006 Ford Crown Victoria.

Rehrig said that the car will be sold only to a municipality.
