Neighborhood meeting in Lehighton tonight

Published August 04. 2010 05:00PM

The third in a series of neighborhood meetings being held by Lehighton Borough Council will occur at 7 p.m. today at the Sixth and Coal Street field.

The neighborhood meetings were conceived by councilman Dale Traupman, who said they will allow informal dialogue on problems, concerns, and suggestions.

Previous neighborhood meetings were held last month at Skyline Park and on the Heights with over 20 people attending both gatherings.

One more is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the Community Grove.

Traupman said the meetings are to allow residents in the community to let council members feel about situations in the community - both positive and negative.

In past meetings, concerns were raised about neighborhood eyesores and needed street improvements.

Traupman stressed that the meetings "are not to debate, not to argue, just to listen."

The sessions are an open concept on a discussion level. Suggestions made and topics discussed may be brought back to the regular council meetings for further action.

"It's an opportunity to get out and get more public input," said Traupman.
