Carbon Register of Wills lists six-month activities

Carbon County Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans' Court Judy F. Moon has announced the following statistical report for the first six months of 2010:

Acting as an agent for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, for the collection of inheritance taxes, the register collected $1,646,093.81. Commission on this total amounted to $24,900.64, which was transferred to the Carbon County General Fund. Total fees collected for the six months, other than inheritance tax, state tax and J.C.P. fees, amounted to $76,241.43.

A total of $3,963.50 was turned over to the State Tax Office for Judicial Computer Fees, while $3,546.50 was collected for the Pa. State Tax and Trust Fund, $4,282.50 in county data processing fees were received and $1,885 in automation fees were collected. Interest income amounted to $21.69.

The office opened 199 estates for the probation of wills and administration. Employees also received and processed various Orphans' Court petitions, and requests of genealogy research and family heritage information, including 17 by mail, 96 by telephone and six by email. Forty genealogists also visited the office in the first six months and ninety other requests for various types of information were received.

The office distributed $8,650 in marriage license fees; issued 173 marriage licenses; handled one guardianship of minor and eight miscellaneous orders and petitions, six petitions for adoption, one voluntary termination proceeding, five involuntary termination proceedings and one incapacitation. There were 12 accounts for court adjudication filed, as well as 69 family settlements with first and final accounts, 189 certifications of marriage and 27 applications/referrals for birth or death records. A total of 84 estates and 158 marriage licenses were disposed.
