Palmerton Sidewalk Sale planned this week
Businesses in downtown Palmerton figure to flourish this week.
That's because the borough's annual Sidewalk Sale along several blocks of Delaware Avenue has arrived.
The event gets under way Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. It continues Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to closing time.
For merchants, that means a bevy of items to pick and choose from, as businesses in the downtown display their products inside and outside their stores as part of the sale.
Bernie Shea, owner of Shea's Hardware Inc., at 266 Delaware Avenue, said the event is a highlight of the year.
"We're excited that it came around again," Shea said. "We're looking forward to seeing a lot of new faces in town."
Shea said the event provides an economic boost to businesses in the downtown.
"It definitely does have a positive impact on our business," he said. "We're just hoping the weather complies."
Borough Manager Rodger Danielson said the downtown looks forward to the activity each year.
"It's always nice for the town," Danielson said. "It kind of makes for a nice, relaxing atmosphere."
Danielson said businesses in the downtown continue to thrive.
"We have a very active, very viable downtown shopping district still," he said. "It's nice to see the merchants participating."
