Senior news

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met last week with 76 members in attendance. Two new members were welcomed to the group, Shirley Driesbach and Rose Kasch. The business session was conducted by secretary Eleanor Schmerfeld, who also offered her weekly report later in the meeting. Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "Little Things."

It was reported that Rose Fritz is a patient in the St. Luke's Miners Memorial Geriatric Center and the 2010 membership reached the 150 mark.

The next meeting will be held April 22, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.

Class of 1969

The Tamaqua Class of 1969 will hold an initial planning session for its next reunion on April 29, at 7 p.m., at the Restaurant at the Station. All class members are welcome to attend.

Pool passes

Applications are available for season passes to the H.D. Buehler Memorial (Bungalow) Pool. Opening day will be June 5, at 11:30 a.m. No season or daily passes will be available that day.

Steeply discounted rates for Tamaqua Area School District residents are made available through the generosity of the John E. Morgan Foundation. Rates have been increased for out of district residents.

Applications are available at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St.; the Tamaqua office of the TIMES NEWS, 200 E. Broad St.; the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce, 114 W. Broad St.; the Tamaqua Public Library on South railroad St.; Fegley's Mini Mart; and Our Family Mini Mart. Completed applications are to be taken to the borough hall.

To ensure having your pass by opening day, have your application completed before April 30.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville.

The service will include the sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism and will be followed by a fellowship hour. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Confirmation Class meets at 12:30 p.m., Cub Scouts meet at 6 p.m. and the Youth Group will meet at 7 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Mother-Daughter Tea, 6:30 p.m., sponsored by WASP; Thursday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.

The choirs rehearse on Thursday: Next week's schedule includes: Cherubs meet at 6:30 p.m., Junior Choir at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. Sunday school for all ages is held at 9:30 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, TYM and prayer and Bible study meet at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, National Day of Prayer event, noon, at Tamaqua Borough Hall; Saturday, praise practice at 9:30 a.m., church clean up day from 10 a.m. to noon.
