Towmensing Township firefighters had just a short distance to go in responding to a dwelling fire Sunday night. The fire was in a single family dwelling directly across Route 209 from their station. Additional fire companies from Franklin and Polk Townships responded as well. Firemen were hampered in responding and battling the fire due to heavy fog, dense smoke and pouring rain. A state police fire marshal has been requested to the scene. Route 209 was closed to traffic as fire fighters battled the stubborn blaze.
