$4,500 proceeds of JT Burlesque Festival will help Mauch Chunk Opera House restoration fund
Gail Maholick/TIMES NEWS Dan Hugos, right, president of the Mauch Chunk Historical Society, accepts a check of $4,527.75 from Tara Kubas and Brooke Au Buchon, organizers of the first Jim Thorpe Burlesque Festival. Also an organizer is Michelle Gallagher.
When the Jim Thorpe Burlesque Festival was in the planning stages this past fall, organizers promised they would donate the proceeds of the event to the restoration fund of the Mauch Chunk Opera House.
Brooke Au Buchon, Tara Kubas and Michelle Gallagher came through with their promise by donating $4527,75 to the Mauch Chunk Historical Society on Thursday. Au Buchon has also served as mistress of ceremonies during the show. The show included 14 acts in the "Big Reveal."
Taking first place in the competition was Jacqueline Hyde of Seattle, Wash.; and second place was Sizzle Dizzle of New York. Third place winner was the Peek A Boo Review from Philadelphia. Lady Scarlette James, Sheila O'Neil and District Judge Edward Lewis of Jim Thorpe were the judges.
Three local girls also were in the competition, Venus Mantrap of Jim Thorpe, Suri from Tamaqua and Amee Lia Diamonds of the Lehigh Valley.
Kubas said the event actually sold out to the point they had to turn people away.
Organizers are planning the "Boolesque" show for Oct. 30, 2010 and are also planning a two day show for April 1 and April 2, 2011.
