Eagle Rock Resorts granted extension on subdivision plans

The Schuylkill County Planning Commission granted Eagle Rock Resorts Company, Hazleton, a one month extension for its plans for subdivisions in East Union Township and North Union Township in Schuylkill County in action taken at its monthly meeting held Wednesday evening at the courthouse in Pottsville..

The subdivision plan of Western Summit South, Phase 5, 6 and 7, East Union Township, needs a sewage planning module approved and a number of permits from Department of Environmental Protection. The Algonquin Valley Subdivision in North Union Township in which 133 lots are being created also needs certain permits from DEP plus soil characteristics in relationship to stormwater management.

The commission gave final approval to the plan of Rausch Creek Land, L.P. for Earl Maca, consisting of 1.16 acres in Porter Township for creation of one lot. Blue Heron Ranch, Washington Township, received a conditional approval for subdividing 43.93 acres for crop production and poultry operation and Halifax National Bank, Tower City Branch, received conditional approval for use 0.6198 for construction of a commercial bank building.

The commission reviewed a number of projects and had no comment. They were:

South Tamaqua Coal Pockets Inc., permit application to DEP (Department of Environmental Resources) to surface mine coal and coal refuse reprocessing on land in Blythe Township.

Schuylkill County Municipal Authority seeks NPDES (National Polution, Discharge, Elimination System permit to expand the Deer Lake Borough's wastewater treatment plant and collection system and the Lee Development Sanitary Sewer collection System in West Brunswick Township and Orwigsburg Borough.

Higher Ground Worship Center is seeking a permit from DEP to construct church facilities along State Route 443 in Wayne Township.

The commission reviewed grant applications made to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources by the following:

Rush Township to make improvements to Ryan Memorial Park, Saint Clair Borough for improvements to Third Street playground, Cass Township for imporvements to Heckscherville playground, Foster Township to construct an asphalt walking path to connect the Community Park and the Hill Area Park, Frailey Township for improvements to Donaldson playground, Mahanoy City Borough for imporvements to North Eighth Street Park, Citizens Fire Company Number Two, Mahanoy City, to install solar panel on the firehouse roof, Mahanoy Township for improvements to Park Place Community Park and Reilly Township for improvements to Branchdale Park.

Two applications are being made for grants from the U. S. Department of Agricultural Rural Development Department, one by Ashland Public Library for expansion of its library to second floor of the current building and the other by Mahanoy City Sewer Authority for replacement of West Railroad Street culvert.

Charles Ross, executive director of the planning board, presented copies of the updated county zoning ordinance for board members to review and make suggestions for any last minute changes. The board has been reviewing the udate for three years and before its adoption by the Schuylkill County Commissioners a public hearing will be held for imput. Added to the zoning are installation of solar panels, windmills and drillling for gas and oil wells.
