Resident seeks help in repairing lateral pipes

Published April 19. 2010 05:00PM

At Slatington's regular meeting of council held Monday night Dave Zellers said that he was one of about 80 residents in Slatington that recently received a letter that said smoke testing was done and they have to pay to get their lateral pipes fixed, which can cost up to $5,000. Zellers said that he doesn't have the money for the repairs, and he doesn't know what to do.

"We are here to work with you," Councilwoman Kris Burek said. "Please keep communicating with us and please continue to make progress on getting the repairs done. We're here to try to help you; not to hit you over the head."

In other business, Council voted to let people park their cars overnight in parking lots owned by the borough for a fee of $10 per month. They are purchasing signs that say this, and they'll be placed in the lot outside of Borough Hall and the lot at Main and Center streets.

Council voted to allow Future Focus to hold its sixth annual Arts Fest Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., American Legion Allen O. Delke Post 16 to hold their Memorial Day parade May 31 at 10 a.m. and the Slatington Volunteer Fire Department to hold their carnival May 4 through 8.

Council also voted that effective May throughout the rest of the year regular meetings of council will be held the second Monday of the month; highway, water and sewer/solid waste will hold their committee meetings the third Monday of the month and finance, public safety and human/community services will hold their committee meetings the fourth Monday of the month.
