At 5:30 a.m. today the East End Fire and American Hose fire companies, fire police, borough police, and borough workers of Tamaqua responded to a half-mile long oil spill that started at the 100 block of W. Broad St. (near the Wachovia Bank on Berwick St.) to the 400 block of E. Broad St. at the borough garage. The long oil leak resulted from a broken oil line on one of the two street sweepers owned by the borough. Both fire companies started the cleanup and were later recalled as the borough used their dump loader and took charge of the lengthy cleanup. Fire police redirected traffic for the duration of the cleanup.
