Four teens cited by Tamaqua police

Published April 16. 2010 05:00PM

Four teenagers have been cited by Tamaqua police for underage drinking.

Sgt. Richard Weaver and Patrolman Thomas Duarte were on patrol early Saturday, at 12:30 a.m., when they observed four male teens walking in the 300 block of Lafayette St. One of the juveniles was carrying a case of Lion's Head beer. The quartet was stopped and officers detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from them. All four were taken to the police station and given portable breath tests. All four had positive results.

The teens included two 17-year-olds, a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old, all from the Tamaqua area. The boys were released into the custody of their individual parents.

The investigation is continuing to determine who supplied the beer and if additional laws were violated.
