Winning is the primary objective of any wrestling bout, and the 14 grapplers on the 2009-2010 TIMES NEWS Area All-Star First Team did plenty of it this past season.

While no one hit the 40 win mark (Pleasant Valley's Jordan Toledo just missed with 39 victories), 13 of the honored matmen had their arms raised in triumph 30 or more times. The group included 10 PIAA State qualifiers, with six medal winners.Add their records together, and the members of the First Team compiled a combined mark of 467-120, a winning percentage of almost 80 percent (79.5).The team is definitely tough to beat.Northern Lehigh led the way with four wrestlers on the First Team, including the Hedash brothers, senior Craemer and junior Colin, junior Nikko Stevens and Zane Heller, a sophomore and the lone District 11 champion among the group.Pleasant Valley placed three grapplers on the First Team, including Toledo, the Bears' all-time winningest wrestler, as well as Jake Chamberlain and Mike Pokrinchak. All three Bears are seniors.Lehighton and Tamaqua have two apiece on the First Team. The Indians are represented by senior David Lucykanish, a member of the 100-win club, and senior Briar Stern. The Blue Raiders have a pair of juniors on the squad, including TN Wrestler of the Year Garth Lakitsky and Kolby Mashack.Jim Thorpe senior Dillon Smith, like Toledo his school's career leader in victories, is also a First Team selection, as are Northwestern senior Dylan Long (a 100-win club member) and Panther Valley junior Nick O'Donnell.Selection to the team were made without regard to weight class.
