Girl, 11, struck by car, killed

An 11-year old New Tripoli, Lynn Township, girl was struck by a car and died on Saturday afternoon.
The accident occurred along Holbens Valley Road at Schochary Road in the township. State police at Fogelsville identified the victim as Shelby Grace Brown.
Troopers said the accident took place about 4:36 p.m. when the girl attempted to cross Holbens Valley Road from the north side to the south side when she was struck. Troopers said she was heading across the road to play with friends and siblings in a yard on the other side.
She was a sixth-grade student in the Northwestern Lehigh Middle School. She was treated at the scene by paramedics then flown by PennStar helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, where she was pronounced dead as the result of multiple blunt force trauma.
The driver was identified as Nancy Smith, 65, of Kempton. Troopers said the investigation into the accident is continuing.
Born in Allentown, the girl was a daughter of Janet L. (Haldeman) Brown and her companion, Jeffrey T. Utsch, of New Tripoli, and Brian K. Brown Sr. of Phillipsburg, N.J.
She sang in the choir at her school and also formerly participated in the NYAA Cheering Program.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by siblings, Paula M. Brown of Phillipsburg, Brian K. Brown Jr. in Oregon, Kala M. Michael of Germansville and Tyler J. Brown, Codi E. Brown, Nathan J. Brown and Madison A. Brown all of New Tripoli; her maternal grandmother, Patricia M. Haldeman of New Tripoli; a nephew and two nieces.
