Two census centers in Tamaqua
Schuylkill County residents in the TIMES NEWS coverage area, who have questions regarding the 2010 Census, have the opportunity to visit one of two Census 2010 Be Counted and Questionnaire Assistance Centers in Tamaqua. Anyone with questions, who may need help in completing the form, or who has not received a form may contact one of the two centers for assistance. No appointment is necessary.
The centers have been set up in Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St. and the Scheller Student Center at Lehigh Carbon Community College, 301 Van Gelder St., Tamaqua. Both centers are open Monday through Friday: borough hall from 9 a.m. to noon; LCCC from 1-4 p.m.
For complete details on each of the assistance centers, visit the 2010 Census Web site at http://2010.census.gov/2010census/take10map/bcqac-textview.php. Once on the page, type in your zip code for more details, including assistance center locations, hours of operation, and languages that are available.
There have also been telephone questionnaire assistance lines set up by the government for individuals who are unable to travel to an assistance center.
Numbers include: for English, 1-866-872-6868; Chinese, 1-866-935-2010; Korean, 1-866-955-2010; Russian, 1-866-965-2010; Spanish, 1-866-928-2010; Vietnamese, 1-866-945-2010; and Telephone Display Device for hearing impaired, 1-866-783-2010.
Without a proper count through the census, municipalities and counties could miss out on thousands of dollars in state and federal funding.
The 2010 census is a 10-question form that asks residents about the individuals in the household, including their age, sex, race, and if the home they reside in is owned or rented. It should take approximately 10 minutes to fill out the form.
