Winners announced in phone directory recycling contest

Winners of the 2009 telephone directory recycling contest were announced by Schuylkill, Keep It Beautiful (SKIP) organization who sponsored the contest.

A total of 11,500 used phone directories were collected. Awards will be presented to the winners at next week's public meeting of the Schuylkill County Commissioners which will be held at the courthouse in Pottsville.

West Penn Elementary Building won third price in the school winners for collecting 1,988 phone books or 7.9 books per student and will receive a prize of $75. First place went to Trinity Academy, of Shenandoah, which collected 1,547 books, or 9.9 books per student and will receive $125 and second place went to Cressona Elementary Building which collected 2,116 books, or 8.4 percent of the student body and will receive $100.

The student winners were as follows:

Harry Auman, Cressona Elementary, First Grade, of Blue Mountain School District, collected 492 books and will receive $150; Sofia Pascuzzo, Cressona Elementary, Fourth Grade, Blue Mountain School District, finished second with 414 directories collected will receive $125 and; Lyndsey Reinoehl, Trinity Academy, Grade Two, collected 278 directors and Emily Reinoehl, Trinity Academy, Grade Six, collected 278 books and each will receive $100.
