Palmerton Area Library ready to celebrate National Library Week
Palmerton Area Library, 402 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, is ready to celebrate National Library Week April 12-18, as well as events planned for the entire month.
The library is once again featuring a series of free Tuesday Workshops, beginning with a Drum Circle on April 6. On April 13 there will be a program about the history of the library along with a presentation by the Friends of the Library for anyone interested in helping at the library. The presentation on April 20 is called "Get Writing, Get Published" by the Greater Lehigh Valley Writer's Group. The last workshop will feature Judy from Palmerton Floral with a demonstration on flower arranging. All the programs are free and are held in the gallery upstairs beginning at 6:30 p.m.
For children, the library is sponsoring a bookmark contest. Children from preschool through grade 6 are invited to design a bookmark and return it to the library by April 14. Prizes will be awarded in three categories. The winning designs will be featured on the library bookmarks for the coming year. If your child did not receive a contest paper at school or daycare, an entry form may be picked up at the library.
On Friday, April 16 the special guest reader for preschool story time will be Sen. David Argall. Children who will be attending that day should bring a drawing or letter about why he or she loves the library, to be presented to Sen. Argall. Last year the state cut library funding by 20 percent which has really hurt the library. The preliminary budget for the coming year calls for another cut in library funding. Patrons are encouraged to visit the library on the morning of April 16 to show support for libraries to the senator.
To conclude the week, the Friends of the Palmerton Area Library are sponsoring a Photography Show on Sunday, April 18 from 2-4 p.m. Local photographers are invited to show and sell their work. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends Group.
