Acting warden named at Carbon Co. prison

A new acting warden has been named in Carbon County.

During a special meeting of the county prison board on Thursday, the board voted to make Timothy L. Fritz of Lehighton, the acting warden at the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning, until a new warden can be hired.

Fritz is filling the position that was held by former Warden James Youngkin, who retired on March 16, after 24 years of service in the corrections system.

His salary will be $48,089.60 a year.

Fritz, who has served as deputy warden since 2007, has 14 years experience at the correctional facility.

Carbon County is actively seeking to hire a new warden. Applications for the position are now being accepted.

According to the ad, published in the TIMES NEWS, "the warden oversees all aspects of the department that include planning, developing and implementing policies and procedures for the overall efficient and orderly operation of the county prison."

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field, and have at least four years experience in the correctional institution with two years in a supervisory position.
