2009 Pet Beauty Pageant Oct. 3 in the Lehighton amphitheater
Toby, a golden retriever, was named overall winner of last year's Pet Beauty Pageant. He is posing with his owner, Connie Wentz.
Last year, 50 pets and their owners strutted down the "runway" in the Pet Beauty Pageant and this year, organizer Susan Anthony is hoping to see the same kind of electricity.
This year's event will be held Saturday, Oct. 3. in the Lehighton amphitheater in the upper park in Lehighton. Rain date is Oct. 4. Registration is at noon and the program will begin at 1 p.m.
Last year's event, which featured pets from guinea pigs to Great Danes, raised $800 for the Carbon County Animal Shelter and Friends of Animals Cat Shelter. A variety of groups will be at next month's event, which will again benefit Friends of Animals.
Anthony said there will be a variety of food vendors and crafters, all focusing on and catering to pets. Also there will be a demonstration by therapy dogs and games for children.
Vendors are welcome to call (610) 377-9085 for information.
Last year Anthony was pleased that so many people came out with their animals to strut down "the runway."
Anthony said her daughter has been a participant in many other pet beauty pageants, which is how she came up with the theme for a local event.
