Damage to fitness center is probed

Published October 28. 2009 05:00PM

Pocono Mountain Regional police are investigating a act of vandalism that caused damages to an area business.

Police said unknown persons entered the second floor of the Pocono Mountain Fitness Center, located at 4 Fork St., Mt. Pocono, and then went to the mens room. Inside they plugged paper towls in the drains and rigged the water to keep running and flushed the toilet causing it to overflow.

The water continued to run causing flooding over the second floor. The water then leaked down through the flooring into the first floor ceiling area causing it to collapse in several locations and flooding the fitness center and hair salon.

Police said it is uncertain if the vandalism occurred before or after closing on Friday, Oct. 23, and was discovered at 8:24 a.m on Saturday by Wendy Ottomanelli, 53, who owns the business.

No damage estimate was given.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call police at (570) 895-2400.
