Possible scam incident probed

Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith is investigating a possible scam incident reported to him this week.

Smith said on Wednesday, Oct. 21, Ben Cellini, of 460 E. Catawissa St., reported he had put two jet skis for sale.He said a man claiming to be Harry Lucas agreed to purchase the jet skis for $9,000.He sent Cellini a check for $9,850. Smith said the man then called Cellini and advised him that he had fired his secretary for making a mistake on the check and told Cellini to send him a check for the sale difference, or $850, to an account in Texas.The original check received by Cellini was a fake, Smith said.Smith asked anyone who might have information concerning this incident to call him.
