Postmaster facing criminal counts

The former postal worker in the Walnutport post office, now holding the position of postmaster in Bangor, was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 20, for alleging propositioning at least three females for sex.

Police charge that Gregory G. Schlegel, 53,of 556 Roberts Rd., Bushkill Township, Monroe County, drove around in the afternoon checking collection boxes and seeking sex. He allegedly tried to lure three girls into his car. The women, police said, were 12, 13 and 17 years old. They reported the incidents to police. Police said he tried to lure the three into his car and also propositioned two women to have sex.

Schlegel is charged with luring a child into a vehicle and harassment. He was arraigned on the charges and committed to the county prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Schlegel also worked in post offices in Nazareth, Whitehall Township and Coplay. He was honored by the postal service in 2005 for heroism after he aided a boy struck by a car outside the post office along SR191.
