Free drive-thru flu shots Thursday in Lehighton

Published October 21. 2009 05:00PM

Drive-through flu shots will be available by Blue Mountain Health System, Gnaden Huetten Campus, on Thursday.

The shots, which are free, will be administered from 2-5 p.m. at Station 2 of the Lehighton Fire Department, 140 S. Third St., Lehighton.

Lisa Johnson, vice president of public relations and marketing for the hospital, said at least 400 vaccines are available on a first-come basis.

Johnson stressed that the shots are for the seasonal flu strain and not H1N1.

"It's really important to get the seasonal flu vaccine," she said. "Seasonal flu can be just as severe (as H1N1)."

She added that every year the seasonal flu claims thousands of lives.

It's especially important for senior citizens and adults to get the vaccine, she noted, adding, "If adults have other issues like asthma, it's even more important for them to get it."

Individuals getting the shot are required to sign a consent form.
