New Slatington borough manager hired
Slatington's search for a new borough manager has ceased.
Borough council at its Nov. 24 workshop session appointed Stephen Salvesen, of Hanover Township to the post at a salary of $60,000
Salvesen was chosen from a list of 22 candidates who applied for the position in July.
Contacted this morning - his first day on the job - Salvesen told the TIMES NEWS he looks forward to the challenge.
"I love it; I'm looking forward to getting involved," Salvesen said. "What I bring is experience; I've been a manager before both at the borough and township level."
Salvesen previously served as township manager of Upper Nazareth Township from 2007-2009, and as borough manager of Birdsboro Borough, Berks County, from 2006-07.
In addition, he has spent the past 27 years on the Hanover Township Board of Supervisors, 15 of which were as chairman.
He cited his experience with the budget and legislative process as assets he brings to the table.
Slatington's borough manager position had been vacant since borough council at a workshop session in May agreed to terminate the employment of then borough manager Herb Pfeiffer.
However, the circumstances around Pfeiffer's release have never been made public.
Pfeiffer was hired Sept. 15, 2008, to replace former borough manager John Kasten.
Kasten resigned from the position in March of 2008.
