Rig rolls over entering I81

A rig rolled over while entering Interstate 81 in Kline Township, Schuylkill County. State police at Frackville said the crash occurred about 8:05 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20.

Troopers said Juan Ramirez, 48, no address given, was driving a 2006 International truck tractor with trailer southbound on the on-ramp of I81 from SR309, and traveling too fast for conditions while entering a left curve. The truck struck 65 feet of metal guard rail and left the road. It traveled about 50 feet up a grass embankment where it rolled over onto its right side and came to rest.Ramirez was not injured but his passenger, Sergio Contreras, 45, no address given, was flown by PennStar helicopter to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill, for treatment of what troopers said were moderate injuries.Damages were moderate to the rig. Troopers added that Ramirez will be cited for driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed and accidents involving overturned vehicles.Troopers also reported investigating another crash along I81 in Mahanoy Township, about 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Troopers said Wendell Hooper, 78, of Green Mountain, N.C., was driving a 2003 Honda Pilot northbound and passing another vehicle when he lost control of the Pilot. The Pilot impacted with the guard rail, traveled back onto the road and then rolled over coming to rest on its wheels.Hooper sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center South, Pottsville, by Mahanoy City ambulance. Troopers said Hooper was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
